PAPUA NEW GUINEA
- Activity Started:1994
- Activity Area: East New Britain Province
Our Story
In 1985, Mr Martin Tovadek, PNG’s Minister of Health who was the first President of OISCA Rabaul, invited OISCA to carry out youth development and rice cultivation guidance in Rabaul. In response to the request for the diligent and disciplined Japanese organization to train young people, OISCA International Rabaul was launched in 1996, and the training center was opened.
The training center has incorporated organic recycling agriculture into the main content of training and is carrying out training of youth wishing for the development of FURUSATO through agriculture. The center is developing human resources who can practice environmentally friendly agriculture activities instead of profit-first principles.
Since 1987 when the training center was opened, it provided many agricultural trainees, with skills in rice cultivation, vegetable cultivation, animal husbandry (pig farming, poultry, fish farming), forestry, well digging, coconut oil making, soap making and chocolate making. From 1993, it practiced organic agriculture and offered training to PNG youth, farmers, teachers, extension workers of Agriculture Ministry, prison guards, government officials, and young people of Solomon Islands. In 2007, it was approved as government rice cultivation training facility. Moreover, it has also carried out environment conservation activities such as tree planting in the surrounding areas and mountainous areas.
Prioritizing the development of human resources who will lead the future of PNG, we will further refine organic environmental farming method that has been practiced so far,
improve the farms, develop industries rooted in the region, protect the environment, and contribute to the region.
In addition, we would like to carry out dissemination activities in areas other than East New Britain Province, where the Center is located.
