Project Background and Activities | Planting of local species of seedlings, fruit bearing trees, and madre de cacao cuttings to improve the vegetation cover of the degraded forest in partnership with the local community.
Abra is one of the six provinces of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), known to be the Watershed Cradle of the Northern Philippines. CAR is home to the 13 watersheds, including the Abra Catchment Area (Cordillera Development Plan (2011-2016). The rapidly declining forest cover due to conversion to other uses such as agriculture, industrial, and economic uses; CAR is host to five of the Philippines extremely high biodiversity conservation priority areas. According to the Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Priorities Plan, the Abra Catchment Area is one of the priority areas. |
Project Impact | Improvement of the site`s vegetation cover and improvement of site`s biodiversity.
Empowerment of the locals as they were educated on the importance of environmental conservation and protection and get involved in the actual implementation of the project. |
