From May 27 to 31, Mr. Eugenio Jose V. Lacson, Governor of Negros Occidental Province of the Philippines, accompanied by relevant officials of the provincial government, visited Japan to explore the possibilities of more cooperation and opportunities for the provincial people.
Negros Occidental is in the Western Visayas of the Central Philippines. OISCA has a training center in Bago, Negros Occidental where we are carrying out capacity building, Children’s Forest Program (CFP), the development of the sericultural industry, and other activities in close collaboration with Negros Occidental Provincial Government.
While in Japan, Governor Lacson and his party moved from Tokyo to Toyama and met with Toyama Prefectural Governor Hachiro Nitta, high-ranking political leaders of the Toyama Prefectural Assembly, and local business persons. They also participated in an activity briefing session of the OISCA Toyama Chapter.
Aside from meeting with local government officials, Governor Lacson and his group also visited Toyama-based private companies: Roki Techno Co., Ltd., and Toyama Environment Maintenance Co., Ltd., and elderly welfare facilities: “Apo Care Toyama” which is accepting nursing caretakers from the Philippines. They discussed with local companies to tap the possibilities of utilizing the human resources from Negros Occidental.
On the last day of their stay, Governor Lacson and his party, accompanied by Mr. Nagaishi Yasuaki, Secretary General of OISCA Japan, visited the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, to meet with Minister Charmaine of Sena-Chua, Deputy Chief of Mission, and other Embassy officials for discussing possible collaboration in the fields of increasing silkworm production, technology transfer and the development of human resources with the Japanese government and private sector.
