From September 1 to 7, a delegation from the Philippines visited Japan for on-site study tour of sericulture-related facilities. The group comprised 6 members from the central government organization such as the Department of Science and Technology, and sericulture specialists from other organizations (Philippine Textile Research Institute, Nueva Vizcaya State University, First Community Cooperative).
The group conducted on-site observation at the Institute of Sericulture and Silk Science in Ibaraki Prefecture, Tomioka Silk Mill in Gunma Prefecture which was registered as the UNESCO World Heritage in 2014, and Komagane Silk Museum in Nagano Prefecture. In addition, they attended a lecture by Mr. Miyazawa, a noted sericulture specialist in Nagano Prefecture, and visited a sericulture farm in Yamanashi Prefecture.
In cooperation with the Philippine Government, OISCA has launched a project for expanding and promoting sericulture in Northern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao Region by utilizing the Japanese Government Grant Assistance for NGO Projects.
The visit of this group is part of the sericulture development project and is aimed to promote the understanding and skills of the government officials and specialists playing a leading role in the national and local government agencies.
