On April 1, the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia announced the awardees of the Ambassador Commendation, and OISCA Indonesia Chapter was one of the awardees.
The award is presented to individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to the promotion of understanding and friendship between the two countries over many years. For this year’s awards, three individuals and two organizations are being honored.
OISCA established Indonesia’s first training center in 1981, and has been engaged in youth development with a focus on agriculture. In addition to regular trainees, the center accepts short-term trainees from universities and high schools, and more than 3,000 people have completed their studies so far. The alumni who have completed the training are based at training centers in Sukabumi and Karangaryar, and are active as center staff, coordinators of greening and community development projects, and farmers themselves, making extensive contributions to community development and environmental conservation by using the skills they acquired through training.
This award was given to OISCA Indonesia in recognition of their long-term grassroots efforts in such areas as human resource development and rural development through agriculture, which have served as a bridge between Japan and Indonesia and contributed to mutual understanding between the two countries.
