Mr. Andrei Abramov, Chief of the Non-Governmental Organization Branch at the Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations paid a visit to the OISCA projects in Japan.
On the duration of his one week of stay in Japan since April 15, courtesy meetings with the supporters of OISCA International including Mr. Ishiba Shigeru, Chairman of the Association of Japanese Parliament Members Supporting OISCA`s Cooperation Activities; Mr. Tsurumi Kazuo, Vice-Chairperson and Mr. Masashi Yamaguchi of the Japan NGO Center for International Cooperation (JANIC); Mr.　Kiyotaka Akasaka of the Foreign Press Center-Japan (FPCJ) and former Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, United Nations; Mayor Toshihiko Ota of Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture; and Mayor Isoo Sasaki of Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture.
On his trip to OISCA Chubu Training Center, Mr. Abramov had the opportunity to understand the importance of youth empowerment as part of OISCA`s Capacity Building Program, which is one of the important pillars of the organization`s mission.
While visiting the Coastal Restoration Project in Natori City, Mr. Abramov emphasized the importance of collaborating with various stakeholders particularly with the government in terms of project implementation. Considering the scope and its ultimate objective to establish and 100 hectare natural barrier that will protect the residents and their agricultural crops from wind-blown sands and salt sprays, it is considered as a “Green Infrastructure” project. While in Natori City, he had the chance to observe the activities of the recycling plant operating on the proper disposing of the tons of debris from the 2011 disaster.
Since 1995, OISCA was granted the Category I (General) Consultative Status of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). OISCA is hoping that Mr. Abramov`s visit in Japan could result to having a productive and stronger working collaboration with the United Nations.
