5 November, 2024

From November 5 to 7, 2024, Mr. Satoru Komiya, President and CEO of Tokio Marine Holdings, and his party visited Ranong Province in Southern Thailand. Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd, a group company of the said firm (OISCA Supporting Member), has continued to implement a mangrove planting project since 1999 as part of its 100-year reforestation efforts. Many employee volunteers of the company have participated in local tree-planting and nursery activities.

The CEO and his team stepped into the mangrove forest to see how it has grown significantly over the years of afforestation activities and also observed a project to increase income by utilizing the bounty of mangroves on Lao Island in the same province.

The visitors listened attentively to the staff’s explanations about the project, including that it aims not only to create forests but also to make communities self-reliant beyond that, and that it emphasizes disaster prevention and mitigation in the local community.    They commented that they were very impressed with the program, which further deepened their understanding of forestation projects.
