Promotion of High-Quality Pig Breeds in Yesagyo Township

Year Started2018
Name of Country DirectorMr. Morita Akira
ActivitiesPrior to the introduction of high-quality breeds, the Livelihood Development Project of OISCA as part of Japan`s ODA to Myanmar helped in the increase of hog production, particularly in Yesagyo Township. In the course of burgoening hog raising industry, the villagers are seeking assistance from DOA-OISCA Agriculture and Rural Development Training Center of high-quality piglets. The villagers have no means to bring in boars from outside the village so they have no choice but to practice in-breeding (mating of related swine) to increase their production. Unfortunately, as a result of this practice, the villagers are experiencing problems such as high mortality rate of piglets.
Project ActivitiesThrough the support of Yu-cho Foundation, the villagers have access to high-quality pig breeds. Duroc boars (US breed) were purchased and Japanese hog expert was dispatched to facilitate trainings in breeding among the DOA OISCA Training Center staff and villagers. The villagers also learned about the concept of artificial insemination (AI) for hog production in a remote village setting.
Project Location Yesagyo Township, Pakokku District, Magway Division
